Mathematics Intent Statement

Mathematics is an important creative and inter connected discipline that helps us to understand and change the world. As mathematicians, all pchildren at Cheriton Primary School will experience the beauty, power and enjoyment of mathematics and develop a sense of curiosity about the subject. They will  become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time, so that children develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately. Our children will reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language. They will solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.
